When will the technology industry move to greener pastures? Has it already reached the edge?

Greener pastures, applicable in a literal sense, the green tech phenomenon of carbon neutralism, striving for cleaner data centers with less power consumption, virtualization. The other thought, opposing the pandemonium the industry faces right now with budget cuts, tech job losses left and right, the economy in a slump, and has the tech industry (as well as many others) reached the cusp of a greener pasture?

It is a well known fact, during down times, people scrutinize, come up with more creative ways to handle and do things. In 1929 during the Great Depression a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant, Jacob Schick, while in Alaska, got tired of having to lather up his face in the freezing weather, so he invented the electric dry razor.

With the bad comes the good, and I, among others, believe business, individuals and industries, specifically technology are heading to greener pastures, through whatever means possible. This is the time for the real innovation to happen.
